Aircraft Detailing at Lake Tahoe Airport (KTVL)

At 6,268 feet, South Lake Tahoe is the highest field we service and the harshest environment we work in. Alpine UV, deep winter, and one of the most protected lakes in the country all shape how we do the job.

The highest field we serve

Alpine Conditions, Lakefront Rules

KTVL sits above 6,200 feet on the south shore, with a single runway and a hard winter. Everything about detailing here is dictated by altitude and by the environmental protections around Lake Tahoe.

  • The most intense UV exposure of any field in our network
  • Deep winter operations and long snow seasons
  • Low water process suited to Lake Tahoe environmental protection
  • Deice residue and winter chemistry removal
  • Seasonal resort and casino corridor traffic
  • Hangar based work when the ramp is unusable

Altitude is brutal on paint

Above 6,000 Feet, the Sun Wins Faster

UV intensity climbs meaningfully with elevation, and Lake Tahoe is higher than Truckee. Paint here fades, chalks, and oxidizes on a shorter timeline than the same aircraft parked in the valley, and dark colors and clear coat over metallic suffer worst. A quality ceramic coating with real UV resistance is not a luxury at KTVL, it is basic preservation.

Working Around a Real Winter

After winter storms the runway opens before the taxiways do, and ramp access can lag for a while. We plan Tahoe work around that. Interior details and hangar based exterior work keep moving in conditions where an open ramp job is simply not happening.

Good to know

Lake Tahoe Questions

Why is a coating more important at Tahoe than in Sacramento?

Elevation. More UV reaches your paint per hour of exposure at 6,268 feet than at sea level, so oxidation and fade arrive sooner. Protection buys back that time.

Can you work here in the winter?

In a hangar, yes. On an open ramp it depends entirely on conditions. We are honest with you about which before you book rather than showing up and turning around.

Is water use an issue at Lake Tahoe?

It is a genuine consideration given how protected the lake is. Our low water process is a better fit here than a conventional hose and bucket wash, both practically and environmentally.

Do you cover both Tahoe airports?

Yes. We service Lake Tahoe KTVL on the south shore and Truckee Tahoe KTRK on the north. If you operate into both, tell us and we will work out the scheduling.
